What’s up my good people?? I’m sure there were many of you that were disappointed when Barack Obama had to postpone his town hall meeting in Rock Hill on last Thursday, we were as well. But we’ve received word that he will reschedule soon, so keep checking for the dates and times, you know we’ll have all of the info for you!

For all of you who don’t know, there is a Black woman campaigning to be the next mayor of Charlotte. Beverly Earle is currently serving her seventh term in the N.C. House of Representatives and was named the 12th most effective legislator out of 120 in 2006. The core values she represents and envisions for Charlotte are Leadership, Oversight, Change, and Building Bridges. Please read more for yourself at www.beverlyearleformayor.com. Don’t just vote for her because of who she is, but because of what she stands for. That’s right, stand up and represent for possibly the first Black female mayor of the Queen City. We especially want to thank those who attended last week’s rally in Jena, Louisiana. There were over 70,000 people in attendance, including celebrities and young people from all over the country. We as young people need to step up and become today’s activists, because there are injustices committed against us every day. Ways to save energy:
1. Unplug everything that doesnt have a 24 hour use.
2. Curb your temperture on the thermostat. I suggest leaving it at 75 degrees. Doing this can save you $150 a year. For those of use that do not have a separate heating/cooling unit for up and down stairs a rule of thumb. In the summer close your vents downstairs and vice versa to make the house one temperture. Also make sure your water heater is set at mid-range of 120 degrees.
3. Close any draft from windows or doors. You can find these closers in lowes or your nearest hardware store. Also make sure you have double pane windows instea of just single pane.
4. A low showerhead can reduce carbon-dioxide and lower your bill $20 to $40 dollars a year.

GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND INTO THE STREETS!!

Ha ha, no, this isn’t endorsing going out and partying this week, but getting out and supporting our leaders, whether they be famous or fairly unknown. Well people, time to get political and vigilant again, I’m tired of all of the injustices happening to black people these days. First off, all of our prayers and words of encouragement go out to the family of Mychal Bell, the 16-year-old young man from Jena, Louisiana. This black teen has become a national figure and hero and leader to some, including us. He is one of 6 teenagers charged with beating a white student after a racially motivated incident at the high school involving a tree that only white students sat under until blacks started sitting there one day. The day after the teens sat under the tree, nooses were hung from the tree. The white student was not seriously hurt, but the charges the teens face carry cumulative charges of over 200 years. Last Thursday, Bell’s charges were vacated, but yesterday a Louisiana appeals court ruled that it was too premature to release the teen. The Tuesday ruling is the latest turn in the racially charged saga of a group known as the Jena 6 -- six black teens initially charged with attempted murder after they allegedly knocked out classmate Justin Barker and stomped him during a school fight. Five of the teens were charged as adults. This is an outrage and is causing a firestorm across the country as again, some towns in the South cannot get over their culture of overt and institutional racism. There will be widespread protests all over the country Thursday, the day that the sentencing was originally supposed to take place. Always Remember Our Fallen Soldiers

We often take life for granted and don’t realize the gift that has been given to us. But this week is one for reflection. Yesterday was the sixth anniversary of the tragedy of September 11, 2001, in which 4 commercial airplanes were taken over by terrorists and crashed in Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., and New York. This was the most catastrophic and deadly one-day event in American history. Almost 3,000 people lost their lives that day, including rescue workers, fireman, and police officers who tried to save those from the burning planes and collapsing buildings. I know that I can remember where I was that morning, when I saw those images, and how everyone stayed glued to the television for the entire day, thinking this wasn’t real, and how everyone prayed for those who were missing and for their families. We still pray for them and their losses and we will never forget.
One fact that a lot of people don’t know is that one of the pilots who flew the plane in Pennsylvania was a black man named Leroy Homer. He was a captain in the U.S. Air Force and a veteran of Desert Storm. The Organization of Black Airline Pilots, Inc. has dedicated a webpage to his honor, http://www.obap.org/html/OurLostComrade.htm., where you can read more about his life and make a donation to the charity established in his name.

Ready for the weekend...AGAIN

Well, people, we partied this weekend as intended, and please believe that we were not disappointed! The best night by far was on Sunday night, when the parties lasted well after 2:00 AM, a rarity in our Queen City. Loft 1523 was a big hit, with the hot bar and view of downtown Charlotte from the wraparound terrace. The DJ kept everybody on the floor and shouted us out, the drinks kept coming, so you know we had a great time! Six Figure Entertainment really does know how to bring in a nice crowd, and thanks Kirk! South End Brewery was also the site of a Pre-Labor Day Bash, and when we say that it was LIVE, it was all of that and more! The parking lot was full, the people were beautiful, you know WE were :), and DJ KL made it happen, at least while we were there.and thanks Antwan from A&J for supporting us.....so all in all the Labor Day weekend parties we attended were definitely not a bust! Have ya'll seen the latest pictures of Lauryn Hill's latest show floating around on the internet? She needs some SERIOUS help, the child can't find a comb, mirror, or stylist, apparently. Shaq is divorcing his wife, Shanie after almost 5 years of marriage, stating irrevocable differences. Sources close to the star athlete say that Shanie was supposedly doing the personal trainer. Hmmm...personal trainer making about $40,000 a year, and Shaq...yeah, girl, that was a WONDERFUL decision! She better hope she gets more than those kids in her divorce settlement, word is that she was also diverting funds from accounts. I guess her and the personal trainer had to go out to eat sometime!! LOL!!

Singer Monica is pregnant, again, I think...did she ever come out and say that she had a baby? Remember some years ago she "took in" her murdered boyfriend's child. Well she is big and looking lovely in recent pics from JD and Janet's latest party. Another pregnant attendee was not looking so hot...Tameeka, Usher's wife, was looking somewhat like a man...don't know about this one, Ursh.

Our condolences go out to the family of the comedian Byrdman, who passed over the weekend. He was originally from New Orleans and was scheduled to perform this week at several shows. Club Eclipse had their weekly Wednesday night comedy show in his memory.
